God Is Still On The Throne

God is still on the throne. No matter what's going on in the world or in your life today, there's a bigger picture. God sees it all. He's in control.

Looking around you today, does it look like God’s in control? We live in a fallen world. Some days we find ourselves appalled at the brokenness, sin, and chaos.

The Bible, which is the authority on all things True, tells us that God is still on the throne

The world,
your flesh,
the enemy of your soul,
your circumstances…

would all lead you to believe otherwise.

When life begins to cloud our vision, where are the Bible verses that prove God is still on the throne? What’s a “God is still on the throne scripture”?

We need a fresh perspective.

Look to the King

Pause for a moment. Take a step back from what’s going on in your world right now and look up.

There sits the King on His throne.

Think about this: As a child of God, your Father is in charge! He’s a loving Father and He’s got this!

God is omnipotent. That means He is all-powerful. There is nothing too hard for Him (Hebrews 1:3, Matthew 19:26, Job 42:2, Jeremiah 32:17).

God is omnipresent. That means He is everywhere. There is no corner of the earth, no cell in your body that is hidden from Him (Proverbs 15:3, Psalm 139:7-10).

God is omniscient. That means He is all-knowing. Nothing surprises Him. What you’re experiencing right now is not a mystery to Him. He knows all things. He knows everything that’s going on and He knows exactly what needs to happen to fix it all (Psalm 137:5, 1 John 3:20, Job 28:24).

The Truth About God’s Sovereignty

“The LORD has established His throne in the heavens, And His sovereignty rules over all.” (Psalm 103:19)

No matter what life looks like today, you can rejoice in the knowledge that God is still on the throne. He is the Victor. He has victory over sin, death, sickness, and any kind of suffering known to man.

We must discipline our minds to see things through the lens of God’s Word rather than strictly through the eyes of our flesh. Though the circumstances in which we live are real, there is a reality that is sometimes invisible to our eyes, but every bit as true.

If we don’t look to the Bible for the truth about God’s sovereignty, we’ll easily become dismayed, discouraged, and distracted by how things appear. Without God’s Word, it’s impossible to live by faith.

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1).”

“So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ (Romans 10:17).”

When it looks like the world is falling apart, read Psalm 9:7 which says, “But the Lord sits enthroned forever…”

Forever. That includes today. That means right now. No matter how things seem.

What Do You Believe?

So what does this mean for you? How does this truth impact your life today?

Today, you have a choice to make.

  • Who will you believe?
  • On what will you base your actions?
  • Will you believe God’s Word by faith – no matter how things seem, or will you believe a different message?
  • Will you live as thought God’s Word is true, or will you live as a victim of your circumstances, reacting in fear?

Because you are God’s child and an heir with Christ, you are not a victim (Romans 8:17). Will you walk in victory?

God has overcome the world, and “greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world” (1 John 4:4).

In Him, you are more than a conqueror (Romans 8:35-37).

The View From the Throne

Yeah, but…

What about the fact that I’m still sick?
What about the fact that we can’t pay our bills?
What about the fact that we’re literally overwhelmed and defeated?
What about all these things that are wrong in our world?

I hear you. Those are facts, but they don’t negate the truth.

No matter what is going on in the world…
No matter what is going on in your life…
No matter how out of control things seem to be…

The truth is that God is still on the throne. That means that He is still in control.

It might not look like it from where we’re standing. But our perspective is limited.

We don’t see it all. We don’t have a “big picture” view.

In the middle of the battle, we’re surrounded by distractions and turmoil and illness and injury and suffering and sin of all kinds. But God’s got a higher view. He sees it all (Genesis 16:13).

You might not know how to handle things right now. But He does, so you don’t have to.

You can rest and trust Him. Knowing He’s on the throne and that He’s in charge, you can simply lift your eyes to Him and trust His guidance and provision and sovereignty.

Fear Him Alone

When you remember that you’re on the side of victory, that you’re a child of the King who has already won, fear can take a back seat.

“The Lord is my light and my salvation;
    whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?  (Psalm 27:1)

Psalm 2 reminds us that Christ is worthy of our praise, honor, allegiance, and worship. Read the whole chapter. Seriously. Take out your Bible or click the link and worship the King who sits on the throne. Be reminded of these life-giving truths:

  • He is a just God.
  • He is the One we serve and live for.
  • It is Him alone we should fear.
  • He is our King.
  • When we put our trust in Him, we are blessed.

Worship the King

No matter what it looks like right now, God is still on the throne. He reigns today, the King of Kings. He is sovereign over all things. Nothing happens outside the scope of His power and authority.

You still have to live your life. Your circumstances probably won’t miraculously be resolved in an instant. We’re not called to live in denial of reality.

But I can promise you that the anxiousness of your heart can disappear. You can know a peace that passes all understanding… a peace that makes no sense, a peace that seems impossible in light of what’s happening right now (Philippians 4:4-7).

Look up. Open your Bible. See the truth about who God is. Be reminded of His majesty as our King.

He is omnipotent.
He is omnipresent.
He is omniscient.

God is still on the throne. Worship Him. He is worthy.

  1. Wow–what a poignant visual reminder. Thank you for sharing this. I’ve heard Steffany Gretzinger sing, “You never fall off of Your throne.” May the Truth that Father is now and will forever be on His throne reach the crevices of every heart.

    1. Thank you for your kind words, Sara. Yes, I pray the Church stands on this truth, especially in times like these. Imagine how differently we’d respond to things if we kept this truth at the forefront of our minds?!
