If you’re not sure where to start,
wonder if you’re “doing it right,” or
simply long to find fresh delight in the pages of the Bible—
you’re in the right place!
For a long time, I thought deep Bible study was for the “experts.” I relied on others to explain the message of God’s Word to me, assuming I wasn’t smart enough to understand it on my own.
But I’ve discovered that God gave us the Bible not to discourage, frustrate, or confuse us, but so that we could know Him.
If you desire to know God and His Word, you’re ready to start studying the Bible.
I’ve organized this process into three simple categories to help you build a foundation of confidence and find genuine delight in God’s Word.
A lack of time or tools can be resolved, but a lack of confidence is typically the biggest hindrance to studying the Bible on your own.
If you’re intimidated by its size or complexity, doubt your intellectual or spiritual ability to discern its meaning, or worry you’ll “get it wrong,” leaving the hard work of studying to others feels safer.
The enemy of our souls lies to discourage us and keep us from mining the riches of God’s Word—but God intended for those riches to be your daily delight.
So, let’s start by refocusing on the heart of study: communion with Jesus Christ. We’ll set aside the “spiritual to-do list” and move toward a relationship built on the truth of who He is.

With your heart settled in confidence, you can engage your mind with a few practical tools.
You don’t need a library of expensive commentaries, a seminary degree, or complicated software to dig deep into the Word. Tools are simply helpers that clarify what’s already on the page.
Here, I’ll introduce you to simple, accessible skills—like observing context and using free online resources—that make the Bible’s meaning accessible to anyone. We’re moving away from guesswork and toward a clear, steady way of seeing exactly what God says in His Word.

Even when we have the tools in hand, it’s often most helpful to see them in action first.
I invite you to “look over my shoulder” as I share my own study notes and walk through passages of Scripture during my own Bible study time.
Here, you’ll see how these simple skills lead to life-changing discovery and the genuine delight of knowing God more.
