Spiritual Chatterbox

I love the Lord because he hears my voice and my prayer for mercy. Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath! - Psalm 116:1-2 (NLT)

My delightful 3-year-old niece has “the gift of gab”. As long as she has your attention, she’ll keep talking!

I remember when my own kids were in that stage. Sometimes, the stuff they said was absolutely hilarious. Other times, it seemed they simply liked the sound of their own voice. Really, I think they just loved my attention.

It’s natural. We are born with that longing to be noticed, to be seen, to be valued.

Psalm 116:1-2 (NLT) jumped out at me this week:

“I love the Lord because he hears my voice

and my prayer for mercy.

Because he bends down to listen,

I will pray as long as I have breath!”

Why does the psalmist pray?

Because the Lord is listening.

Just like my niece.

We’re not required to have something important to say before we come to God in prayer. He just likes to hear from us. He likes to *be* with us. We’re His kids!

When’s the last time you talked to Him till you ran out of breath?

Let’s become spiritual chatterboxes.

There’s always something to tell Him about.

There’s always a question we can ask Him.

There are always thoughts and feelings we can share.

He’s listening!

“Never stop praying (1 Thessalonians 5:17, NLT).”

“pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17, ESV)”
